Corgi

Pembroke Welsh Corgi · A thousand-year-old Welsh breed

History and origin

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of the oldest breeds in the British Isles, with over 1,000 years of documented history in Wales. It was originally bred as a cattle-herding dog, using its low stature to nip at the cattle's heels and dodge their kicks.

Its worldwide fame soared when Queen Elizabeth II of England showed her passion for the breed for over 70 years. Think of the famous children's film The Queen's Corgi. Today it is one of the most recognisable and beloved dogs on the planet.

Our dogs

WELSH CORGI PEMBROKE

This breed is our latest venture, since the arrival of Donna in the Covid pandemic. The breed had always caught our attention, but the lack of nearby references had perhaps kept us from bringing it home, so it was ultimately a "pandemic puppy" decision — a coincidence again. Her breeder is also a whippet breeder in Russia, the country from which I was clear a quality Corgi should come, as they have had the best Pembrokes in the world for many years. I was also clear that I wanted to start with an NB specimen, that is, with a short tail. So came our multi-champion Fest Hauer Perfect Schastye Evropy (aka Donna), the matriarch of the Corgi clan that is beginning to rule the roost at home.

Taking advantage of showing Donna at the 2022 World Show in Madrid, and with her coming into season, we mated her to the super American champion Aubrey´s Son of a Preacher Man, and that was our first litter of the breed, co-bred with the Hungarian kennel Born to Be.

Our Corgis have a pedigree FCI. We select breeding dogs with hip and elbow dysplasia screening; eye disease control, Von Willebrand disease and degenerative myelopathy are the areas we watch most closely in this breed.
